The Dr. Oz premiere shed light on sexual health issues, fast food addiction, a surgery that many women don't need, and the cleanliness of handbags.
On the first episode of Dr. Oz, sex therapist, Laura Berman, discussed sexual health issues and Dr. Oz made a fast food intervention, discussed hysterectomies, and informed viewers on how to keep their handbags clean. Sexual Health with Dr. Laura BermanDr. Oz began the show by asking the audience and viewers, “Who had sex last night?” The reason he asked this question was to lead into the segment on sexual health. Dr. Oz reported that forty percent of women suffer from sexual dysfunction and through high tech imagery and animation he showed how women have an orgasm. Dr. Oz reported that the most erogenous zone for women and men is the brain. Dr. Laura Berman discussed sexual health with Dr. Oz. She stated that there are three steps to having a better sex life, and they are as follows:
Fast Food AddictionDr. Oz reported that Americans spent 110 billion dollars on fast food during the past year. He started this segment by having a fast food intervention with a viewer who was addicted to fast food. She ate fast food for most meals of the day six days a week. Dr. Oz stated that a person’s heartbeat sounds different after she eats a healthy meal as opposed to a fast food meal. He also stated that the viewer eating fast food regularly had a lower life expectancy due to it. Dr. Oz gave viewers a plan if they’re going to eat fast food. His plan entailed adding as much lettuce and tomato as possible to each burger or sandwich, skipping the bread, and having fiber wafers one hour before a meal. He reported that the fiber wafers fill people up, so they won’t each so much unhealthy food. Dr. Oz recommended that people choose the healthiest options at fast food restaurants. Dr. Oz Discusses HysterectomiesDr. Oz reported that hysterectomies are the top reason that women get surgery, and he stated that most women don’t need it. A viewer asked when she should get a hysterectomy and Dr. Oz said that she shouldn’t get one unless it’s affecting her quality of life. He reported that oral contraceptives and pain relievers can ease the pain of fibroids, and fibroids can be reduced with the help of a healthy lifestyle. He stated that every woman who is told by a surgeon that she needs a hysterectomy should get a second opinion. Cleanliness of HandbagsMany women carry a purse or handbag and don’t realize the germs lurking on the outside and affecting items on the inside. Dr. Oz examined one woman’s purse, one woman’s makeup that was in her purse, and one woman’s cell phone. The woman’s purse had fungus that causes asthma growing on it, the makeup was contaminated with a bug that can cause diarrhea and vomiting, and the cell phone had fetal contamination on it that can cause urinary tract infections. Dr. Oz gave the audience tips on how to keep their purses clean. He said to never put it on the floor, never share makeup, and clean one’s cell phone with a UV wand for a couple minutes a few times a week. Viewers can compare prices of UV light wands on google products. The first episode of Dr. Oz contained information on sexual health, fast food addictions and how to eat healthier at fast food restaurants, hysterectomies, and handbag cleanliness.
