Obesity, Bowel Movements, and Fats on Dr. OzDr. Oz Discusses the Differences between Good and Bad Fats
Dr. Oz works with a veterinarian to help an overweight viewer and her obese dog, discusses healthy bowel movements, and talks about good and bad fats.
A veterinarian makes an appearance on the Dr. Oz show to help a woman with her overweight dog. Dr. Oz informs the audience about the healthy shape, consistency, and color of healthy bowel movements and talks about good and bad fats. Dr. Oz Teams Up with VeterinarianDr. Oz consulted a veterinarian, Dr. Becker, in helping a plus-sized viewer and her overweight dog. The viewer, Vicki, wanted Dr. Oz to help her and her dog lose weight. Dr. Becker reported that when a pet owner feels her dog’s ribs, she should be able to feel a slight layer of fat on the dog’s ribs. If there are thick layers of fat, the dog is overweight. This woman’s dog was obese. Vicki’s blood pressure was high which can lead to a heart attack or a stroke. Dr. Becker and Dr. Oz comprised a plan for Vicki and her pet. The veterinarian recommended a few things. He advised her to not allow free feeding. He said to split up the food three times a day with precise portion control. Dr. Becker recommended discussing how much one’s dog should eat with the pet’s veterinarian. He recommended giving the dog carrots, blueberries, or celeries for snacks instead of high calorie snacks. Dr. Oz suggested that Vicki start walking 10,000 steps a day and taking her dog on walks. Dr. Oz reported that people should wear pedometers to make sure they’re taking enough steps. Dr. Oz Discusses Healthy Bowel MovementsDr. Oz requested that one of the audience members mold clay to look like her regular bowel movements, and then he discussed what a person’s bowel movement should look like. He reported that it should look like a smooth s-shape and come out in one long piece. Dr. Oz reported that if someone’s bowel movements are cracked or come out in round pellets, the person is constipated. He said that this person is probably dehydrated and isn’t getting enough water. Dr. Oz stated that if the bowel movement is watery then the person may be suffering from an allergy or having a reaction to a certain type of food like dairy. Dr. Oz stated that people’s bowel movements should be brown or green most of the time. He stated that black usually means that the person is bleeding. If a person’s bowel movement is red, it could mean that the person is bleeding, has hemorrhoids, or ate certain foods. Doctor Oz reported that one’s bowel movements have a lot to do with the food that one eats. If a person is not getting enough healthy foods, he or she might become constipated. He reported that there are a couple solutions for constipation including drinking water and eating more fiber. While answering one audience member’s question, Dr. Oz reported that a person should have a bowel movement a few hours after eating. He stated that a person can eat beets and wait for his bowel movement to turn red to know how long it’s taking for one’s food to get through the body. Good Fats versus Bad Fats on Dr. OzDr. Oz discussed the difference between good fats and bad fats. He reported that monounsaturated fats are good and trans fats are bad and never okay to eat. For example, American cheese is a bad fat and guacamole and walnuts are good fats. On Dr. Oz, the doctor discussed obesity, weight loss, healthy bowel movements, and good and bad fats.
