The co-hosts of The View covered topics relating to women's health such as physical and mental health issues and yummy vegetable recipes.

The women of The View discussed hot topics, talked about health issues with Dr. Donnica Moore, revealed Sherri’s goal for the summer, and encouraged Whoopi to eat recipes featuring vegetables.

Hot Topics

The co-hosts began the show by discussing the reality show, Jon and Kate Plus 8. They reported that allegedly Jon is having an affair and showed clips from the show where Jon and Kate discussed their marriage. Whoopi appeared upset that the children would be affected by these relationship issues.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck jumped at the chance of criticizing President Obama’s nomination for the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor, who is a federal appeals judge in New York. Elisabeth stated that this judge rules according to her emotion, and Joy made a comment that people are not robots. Whoopi said, “Is she the right choice? I don’t know.”

Dr. Donnica Moore

Dr. Donnica Moore discussed the physical and mental health problems facing American women today. She reported that 30 percent of adult women are obese and 34 percent more are significantly overweight. Dr. Moore stated that being overweight increases the risk of heart disease and many types of cancer. The women of The View seemed disappointed to hear that getting seven to nine hours of sleep is just as important to health as exercise and nutrition.

Sherri’s Summer Challenge

Sherri Shepherd announced that she would show off her bathing suit body live on The View by the end of the season. She compiled a dream team of experts including a personal trainer, nutritionist, endocrinologist, and fashion consultant. Dr. Daniel Donovan, Sherri’s endocrinologist, discussed how he would assist Sherri in reaching her goal.

Whoopi Eats Vegetables

For many people, eating vegetables is a normal occurrence. However, viewers of this show probably know that Whoopi Goldberg does not like to eat vegetables and refuses to on most occasions. Chef, Tyler Florence, attempted to change her mind by fixing yummy recipes that include veggies. The first recipe he prepared was a basic way to cook vegetables without losing the flavor. Tyler roasted the vegetables after sprinkling them with salt, pepper, and olive oil.

Next, Tyler taught Whoopi how to disguise vegetables in pastas by preparing cheese tortellini with roasted butternut squash sauce, roasted zucchini fettuccini, and cauliflower mac’n cheese. Viewers can find these recipes here. He finished off the segment by requesting that Whoopi try red velvet cake made with beets.

The show ended with a performance by Alice Ripley, the star of the Broadway show, "Next to Normal." Don’t miss the next episode of The View on ABC which features David Hyde Pierce and Justin Long.
