Hot Topics on The View

The co-hosts of The View discussed the joke that David Letterman made about one of Sarah Palin’s daughters. Sarah Palin was on Good Morning America and said that the joke contributed to sexual exploitation of young girls. Elisabeth Hasslebeck said that children look to their parents to defend them when they can’t defend themselves. Joy Behar said that Sarah Palin is a mother who is upset and mad, so she is going for David Letterman’s jugular. Barbara Walters said that they are both getting a lot of publicity from this incident.

The women also discussed the announcement that Cher’s daughter, Chastity Bono, made regarding her sexual identity. Chastity reported that she will be having the surgery to change from a woman to a man. Whoopi Goldberg asked Barbara how she would feel if it was her daughter, and Barbara said, “I would have very mixed feelings.” Barbara reiterated that the parents can’t be blamed.

Spencer and Heidi Pratt

The couple who left the show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here multiple times, Spencer and Heidi Pratt discussed their relationship and lives with the co-hosts of The View. They went on the reality show to raise money for charity; however, on the show, Spencer said that the other celebrities were not big enough celebrities for them to be around. The View co-hosts asked the couple about Spencer’s baptism while on the reality show. Spencer said that he is a pretty angry guy and wanted to make a change. Heidi said, “I’ve noticed a big difference.”

Joy asked Heidi about her desire to be a true disciple of Jesus and posing in Playboy. Heidi reported that she couldn’t confirm that she posed for Playboy, but she reported that if she did pose for Playboy it would be tasteful. Spencer said that if Heidi posed for Playboy it would come out on August 15, 2009. Barbara asked the couple what they are going to do with their lives in five years, and Spencer said that he lives in the moment.

Dr. Larry Norton Discussed Cancer Myths

Dr. Larry Norton, from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, discussed cancer myths with The View co-hosts. Dr. Norton reported that taking vitamins can be harmful, and this has been noted in every study except for one. He said that the only vitamin that people should take is vitamin D. Dr. Norton said that people should consume vitamins in the foods that they eat.

Elisabeth asked Dr. Norton about breast cancer and genetics. Dr. Norton reported that the gene abnormality that causes breast cancer can be passed down through either side of the family. He reported that women who have a family history of breast cancer will not automatically get breast cancer; however, they should get tested on a regular basis.
