The View was spicy on Thursday, May 21st with a day of hot topics and interviews with Larry King and the women of the new reality show, The Southern Belles.

All five co-hosts were present for discussions around the averted terrorist attack on New York City, American Idol season finale, Dancing with the Stars season finale, and interviews with Larry King and three women from the Southern Belles.

Hot Topics

The first hot topic covered by The View co-hosts was the recently averted terrorist attack planned for New York City. Allegedly, four men planned on blowing up a synagogue and bombing military planes. Whoopi Goldberg reacted by saying, “Why attack people who love God?” The women discussed President Obama’s speech, and Barbara Walters stated, “Nobody makes a better speech.” They were impressed with the way that President Obama and New York City officials were handling the matter.

The second topic discussed was the winner of this season of American Idol, Kris Allen. According to the co-hosts and the American Idol judges, this was a huge upset. Barbara discussed three reasons why Adam Lambert may have lost:

  1. There have been rumors that Adam is gay, and American Idol is a family oriented show.
  2. Kris made it clear to the public that Christianity is important to him.
  3. Young girls make up the majority of the fans and people who vote for the winner. Kris may have been more appealing and safe to that audience.

Whoopi announced that the 600th issue of Archie Comics will settle the debate between Veronica and Betty. Archie will propose marriage to one of the women, and Whoopi is voting for Betty. She reported that she doesn’t like the bad girl brunette, Veronica.

Larry King

Larry King, the seventy-five year old host of Larry King Live on CNN, discussed his new memoir, My Remarkable Journey [Weinstein Books, 2009] with the co-hosts of The View. He has been married eight times to seven different women, and Barbara Walters asked him about two of his children who he had not seen until they were in their thirties. Barbara wanted to know why Larry waited so long to find his children and he stated, “I don’t have a good answer.” His current marriage has lasted for twelve years and continues to be strong.

The women hinted at Larry’s sex life, and he informed the women that he can’t take Viagra. Joy apologized and he replied, “Why do you assume I need it.” All of the women were in agreement that Larry’s latest memoir is entertaining and funny.

Southern Belles

Three of the women from the new reality television show, Southern Belles, which airs on SOAPnet on Thursday, May 21st, discussed the show and their relationships with each other. One of the women from Southern Belles explained that this show is different from the other reality shows because the women are all single and are home grown country girls. Rumors regarding Emily, one of the stars on Southern Belles, and Nick Lachey have been circulating after they shared time together at the Kentucky Derby. Emily said that they were just talking and she was trying to set him up with another Southern Belle, Hadley.

Don’t miss tomorrow’s episode of The View with ladies from The Real Housewives of New Jersey and the author, Sharlene Azam.
